Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable, documentation, policies and procedures

implements requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective handling of reagents activities including:

performing pre-start checks

diagnosing faults, identifying and addressing hazards

selecting and using lifting equipment (manual, cranes and loads)

using and selecting appropriate tools and equipment

identify and select safe work practices

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the handling of reagents that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating to confirm work/plans/specifications

passing on end of shift information

demonstrates completion of the handling of reagents that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

performing correct sequencing for starting up equipment

correctly operating and monitoring equipment including:

inspecting operations/plant

selecting, mix and add reagents to required parameters and specified dosage

transferring and storing reagents

inspecting plant and identify defects and potential problems

performing shutdown and isolation checks in sequence


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in Handle reagents activities through:

identifying and managing risks and hazards

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues setting up work activity

complying with isolation and breakdown procedures and responsibilities

complying with work health and safety practices

complying with emergency procedures

maintaining equipment safety requirements

applying waste procedures

carrying out work according to reagents handling principles and systems

complying with WHS procedures

using operational procedures and checks

applying site safety requirements

applying hazardous goods and consequences of spills procedures

complying with site procedures

applying site safety requirements

selecting and checking for faults, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

monitoring operations

reporting defects

applying safe work practices

identifying contaminant

identifying and complying with equipment limitations and maintaining operating parameters

complying with equipment safety requirements

identifying repair requirements

applying isolation procedures

interpreting and applying metallurgical and technical data (basic)

applying operational procedures and checks
